August Home Maintenance Tip From EFynch.

"I am just gonna work on the refrigerator, Honey."
Baltimore, MD: August is a light month for maintenance. It is hot, dry, and who wants to work outside! but there is one VERY important item. Besides the list of homeowner tips from EFynch- we HIGHLY recommend that you use this month to start thinking about winter and different tasks that, if performed now, can save you money and scheduling stress as Autumn is just around the corner.

Hot Today but ice is coming. Think ahead to save $
1. Take a walk around your home and think about winter.

- Is your driveway properly sealed?
- Do you need to have your deck redone?
- Gutters/ Roof in good shape (gutter guards)?

Now is NOT yet the time for furnace work (wait until next month), but as we approach autumn, some of the specialized services might begin closing out their schedules for the season (eg. driveway sealers). It might be a good idea to get a jump on this work to beat the rush and avoid paying Peak Pricing.

Other tasks to take on this month:

1. Change your air filters:

Should be completed every few months. Good and quick task to tackle during a halftime (now that football has started back up). Need help doing this- check out our instructional video- how to change an hvac air filter.

2. Check for outdoor pests, bees:

This is prime growing season. The hornet next that is small today might become a basketball in a week. Mother Nature is in high gear, make sure to remain on the lookout. Video- Bees were EFynch's first project. See the story (cartoon) here).

3. Clean Sink and Bathroom Drains:

This is an often overlooked task but keeps your plumbing operating at maximum efficiency. Pull the drain covers off/ clean hair and gunk/ pour white vinegar and boiling hot water to flush the system of residue (old soap, shampoo, etc.).

4. Keep lawn and flowers watered:

During dry spells grass is stressed and stops growing. DO NOT MOW if it is brown and consider skipping a week of mowing during very dry times. Mowing can damage grass further and allows wees to grow in it's place. Longer grass is healthy, but try not to let it go over 5".  If you can adjust your mower, mow a little on the high side- (3.5" min).

Like we said, August is typically a light month for our maintenance plans but it is still very important. If you stay on top of items and follow our plan, you will save $$ in the future by preventing problems.  For more information, follow visit www.efynch.com and register as a homeowner (privacy protected).
