Hey Homeowners-
Beware the Ides of March!

Typically, this month gives Baltimore and D.C. Homeowners a taste of spring. The month opens with an average high/ low temperature of 49/29 but closes with highs near 60 and the disappearance of below freezing temps.

However, March typically comes with a few tricks and some of the areas biggest snow storms have roared through leaving us with a slippery mess.

Below are the tips that will help you stay on top:

March:

1. Prep Outdoor Power Equipment.

Beat the rush when everyone needs repairs in April. If you fertilized last year, there is a chance you grass may start growing in the last 2 weeks of the month, at least enough to look patchy). You can get outdoor equipment ready and have plenty of time should repairs be required.

2. Clean out mulch beds.

If you skimped on leaf pickup this past fall, get on this task right away. Cleaning the mulch beds before spring flowers will make the task much easier. Plus, many landscapers offer HUGE discounts on mulch delivery towards the end of this month.

3. Clean windows.

It's almost spring cleanup time. Get a jump and clean both the inside and outsides of your windows.  A good cleaning also includes the screens and windows sills. Keeping everything dust free gives you an opportunity to inspect weather stripping AND prevent degradation, increasing the lifespan of your windows.

4. Check Gutters & Roof

Gutter Cleaning is not just for Autumn! Not as extensive, but you should have a visual inspection and test the downspouts of your gutter in preparation for a rainy spring. Make sure all nails/ screws are secure and also give your roof a once over to make sure there was no ice or snow damage during the winter.

5. Check your smoke detectors.

Every clock change, you should change batteries and/ or test your smoke alarms. This year clock changes are on Sunday, March 11th at 2am.

6."Summerize" your Snowblower!

Wait until the end of the month or the week before. Drain the fuel and run until the mower chokes out. Then change the oil, grease, and put in a comfy spot!
